Catching Up On Life

It appears I was able to make a connection with some of you when I shared my decision to cross my own Rubicon in an earlier post. Since I continue to receive emails about it, I decided to digress today from my usual posts to take you behind the curtains.

Update no. 1: I've been catching up on life big time since I crossed my Rubicon almost a month ago. It's probably one of life's ironies that I dreamt so long of regaining control over my time, then when my prayers were finally answered I felt a certain tentativeness about what to do with all that time on my hands.

I still have to be up by 6:30 in the morning to drive the wife to her car pool's pick-up point, but now I could afford to go back to sleep without feeling guilty about it upon my return home. My long to-do list at home--busted lights, inoperable switches, leaking plumbing, personal files to be sorted, family photos to be digitized, etc.--has been shortened but remains formidable. Still on the list are: visiting new places and old friends, watching movies collected during my busy years, and books acquired to be read leisurely "when I got the time."

But I made sure to find time to listen to the major speeches at the ongoing Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado--Sen. Ted Kennedy, Sen. Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama and former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Tomorrow, it's showtime for Sen. Barack Obama. I like the guy and what he stands for.

Update no.2: With regard to our consulting group, we are still attending to some administrative matters even as we prepare already for our maiden project. We are still working out the formal mandate, so it's premature for me to be talking about details. Suffice to say that for a new group like ours, you can say that we have been lucky. That makes leaving one's comfort zone not too scary after all. We just have to be alert to opportunities often lurking in the least expected places. The first useful lesson taught to us by our maiden project? Never burn your bridges...
